I’m an IT Guy by day, aspiring dancer by night, and a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ on Sunday’s; and this is my website. I live in La Mirada, California, have an awesome wife named Maryann, and I like coffee.

After high school, I spend over seven years in the US Army. They noticed my interest in computers and although at that time computers were still in their infant stages, I was put to work as a computer operator for the administrative office where I was assigned: Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

From there, I spent the next four years in Bible college. As a Christian, my passion was teaching. My professors loved my term papers; how they were printed with a laser printer; quite a contrast from the manual typewriter.

My first job after school was teaching. I taught sixth grade for 25 years. During that time, schools were growing more and more toward computers, and we were no different. I became the go-to computer guy and was mostly self-taught. I used my programing skills to create our own student information system (like PowerSchool but without going public … missed that boat there). I also installed a computer lab for our school, connected the classrooms, and even worked on making our school an ISP for our community, but that was a big flop.

As a part-time worker for a small start-up, I developed the software for a reading program for schools. That was fun. The program was targeted toward students with reading deficiencies. It was rewarding to come up with all kinds of solutions to the requests from those in charge. The program included drills, games, and read-along sessions for over 30 lessons, incorporating visuals, audio, and tactile learning.

It wasn’t until I changed employment to a new school; the one I’m currently working for: VCS. However instead of teaching, I was given the job of IT Support. I also got my first exposure to PowerSchool. I really gravitated toward the product’s ability to be customized. Over the years, I learned quite a bit on the technologies that PowerSchool uses: PSHTML, DAT’s, page fragments, JavaScript (AngularJS and jQuery), and SQL. As a computer guy for my school, I was able to use my years of experience and skills in programming to develop all kinds of solutions for various data needs; both within PowerSchool and with external applications as well.

To be continued …

I started my journey in computers while in high school.
